www.usnews.com/articles/business/your-money/2008/10/09/what-it-takes-to-be-rich--where-you-live.html one of the comments about this article really annoys/angers/frustrates me... "Reply to choice
We need quality people in this country. The kind raised by loving, caring people with the means to nuture and care for children. It's not the US that is overpopulated, it's other areas of the world. Folks with no children aren't carrying the financial burden of raising the next generation of Americans. You should shoulder more tax burden, not less. "on what planet does it make sense to tax childless/free people MORE to carry the burden of raising the next generation? IMO that will just cause a lot of unwanted children so that people can get more of a tax break. It's annoying enough that I have to pay for the local school system (w/ my property taxes) that I will never use. I would rather send that school tax money to the police/fire departments to pay for a service they might actually use.. but that's just me..) anyway - what ever happened to parents shouldering the financial burden of their own children?

The STAR program on Long Island provides property tax relief in the form of school tax exemption for seniors and others who qualify.
I agree 100%, if you're not having children and even better, can PROVE it (vasectomy, tubular, infertile) why should you have to pay for other peoples kids to go to school?

It went to the same place as those same parents taking care of the disciplining of those kids.
And where do they get this attitude that the US isn't overpopulated like other areas of the world?
I think I could deal with paying for schools if they actually did something besides build more schools. Something like education, and not just the athletic department. I hate seeing money that we are taxed for going to a school system that will fritter it on the football team while the teachers are barely above poverty level. And McCain wants to increase tax deductions for families with children? FTS!

"It's not the US that is overpopulated..." What a LOAD of BS!!! Talk about turning a blind eye to the problem! It IS a problem! We don't NEED any more Americans or anything else! We NEED to take care of the people who are already here!
It went right out the window when irresponsible people started taking over and breeding like crazy. You know, the majority. The people who don't stop and think about whether or not they can afford it...all those wonderful teen moms out there.

You could say the rich countries are the most overpopulated because they use much more of the worlds resources.
From what I hear the world would not survive if everyone had the lifestyle of the USA or other rich countries.

Whoever consumes more should pay proportionately more, but our whole tax system is set up to give breaks to rich people and people with families. I hate it.

I noticed this election that both McCain and Obama wanted to give tax breaks for people with childen.

EVERY election, every politician says they want to give families and kids breaks, because it's the only overwhelmingly safe platform.
