I'm new to this board, but very glad I found it. I met DH 7 years ago and we have been married for 5. DH has an 11 daughter who we have every other week. Before DH and I got married, we talked about having 2-3 kids. It's just what people do - meet someone, have kids and live happily every after, right?? I love my SD dearly, and if we were able to have her all the time, DH and I would jump at the chance, but we also enjoy the week that it's just the two of us.
Due to circumstances, I ended up going back to school and still have another year left. Between working F-T, family, and school, DH and I were going to wait till I was done with school to start having kids. Well, now it's getting closer to the end, and I'm really having doubts about whether kids is what's best for us. I'm 33 and DH is 36. I like our lives the way it is and I look forward to the times we can just pack up and go somewhere. It started getting me thinking and DH and I have been doing a lot of talking. I found an article talking about childfree lifestyles and how people with kids always seem so unhappy. It's become a joke between DH and I because when we see parents out, they're yelling at their kids, frustrated, etc and we look at each other and say "they're not happy".
Well, we're definitely leaning towards not having kids of our own, but may in the future foster/adopt (have friends and family that have done both). I just wonder what life will be like in the future - I come from a bigger family that has the holidays together, and am very close to them. I just don't want to miss out on "that" experience as we get older. How do you see your lives in the future - besides having fun and traveling that is
I keep going back and forth but it always comes down to if I'm not a 100% sure, we shouldn't be having kids. My DH said he would be happy either way (I know a total cop out). He just said he's lived the experience of having a child, but would also be happy having one together too.
Looking for any input or experiences you have been through.
