If you pick up this weekend's issue of People, there's a letter about Jennifer Aniston on page 12:
"Why does Jennifer Aniston have to keep assuring everybody, 'I'm happy - I really am'?" if she's so happy, she should not have to keep talking about it. She is an unmarried woman with no kids and a mediocre career. Meanwhile her ex-husband has six kids and has more success. When Jennifer does something newsworthy, like getting married, having a child or adopting one, then she will deserve to be on your cover."
I simply have no words.

I won't speculate on whether or not she is happy because I don't know her and I'm not in her head to know what she thinks and feels. There seems to be so much in the media about her supposed unhappiness, I have to wonder if there isn't some truth to it. Not necessarily because she is unmarried and childfree but maybe there is something in life that she is seeking and has never found. On the outside looking in, it appears that she "has it all"--fame, a great career, good looks (although overrated IMO), and probably more money than she could ever spend. Still, it doesn't guarantee happiness. So who knows... I do agree with you that the comment made that "she deserves to be on the cover when she does something newsworthy like getting married or having/adopting a child" is a horrible thing to say. That comment should have never been published.

It's just amazing to me that there are people out there who think this. That was probably Angelina writing in. haha. She has more nannies than kids. Jennifer has done more movies than Brad in the last few years. His only real movie is following Angelina around and parading in front of the cameras. Who knows if Jennifer is happy, and who cares? If she wanted to be married and pop out kids, she'd be married and popping out kids. She's voted in the top 3 desirable women in the world. Apparently she doesn't want to settle, and I applaud her for that.

I honestly couldn't care less about Jennifer Aniston, what gets to me is that there are people out there who think she isn't worth two bits until she gets married and mothered. That's actually really offensive.

I think it's getting worse, and it may be a backlash from more women making the decision not to have kids. As more people come across a friend or relative who makes that decision, more people react to it and the more it happens, the more threatened they become and the more offensive because for so many people, it's so important to them what other people think and that they're the status quo. I think much of the defensiveness is based in them not knowing what they wanted and not taking control of their lives and just sort of going along with the herd and then having insecurities as they get older and realize that more.
