The thing is, just because someone has children there is no guarantee that those children will be there for them in their old age.
And even if there was a guarantee, I still wouldn't have sacrificed my young years to raise children.

I think of all these young 'kids' having babies and wonder if they realize what they are giving up in life, the hardships (work, money, freedom, etc). Ohhhh, I can't imagine.

I think there are too many people of all ages who have children without giving it enough thought as to how it will affect their lives and what it really involves.

Where I live, Texas, we see people with no resources having one kid after another, and they know both them and their kids will get healthcare, food stamps, welfare -- in short, be more solvent than people who work all week and support themselves and can't afford healthcare. Until we end that gravy train, which is difficult since it's not the kids' fault, irresponsible people will just keep spreading their worthless genes. I'm all for taking care of the indigent, but a condition needs to be they stop breeding until they can afford to take care of themselves, and we should offer sterilization and birth control to anyone who wants it.

It's the same here in California. Those without the resources to care for children continue to breed irresponsibly because the system rewards their behavior.

I have been reading that there are more and more boomers get old without children. I read that too. I think the boomers are the first generation to have a fairly sizable percentage who are CF.
