I don't know if any of you are watching the cable show Rosanne's Nuts. It's about her living in Hawaii on her old macadamia nut farm. It's pretty entertaining to me. She has a live-in boyfriend who is cute for his age, an old musician. She's, of course, temperamental, just like on the old Rosanne show pretty much.
Anyway, she's trying to do some little things to help people throughout the show, like giving crops away to a food kitchen, things like that. She's trying to use her power and money for good.
This past episode, she was invited to speak at a girls' school. She had some messages for them, and one of them is she told them (paraphrasing but as close as I can remember) "I want to tell you all NOT to have kids. Do something more important with your life. I'd like to see the next two generations not have kids and focus on solving the world's problems."
Earlier in the show while writing the speech, she was telling her boyfriend, who didn't think it was a great idea to do that, that if even one person had told her when she was young "Hey, you don't have to have kids!" that she wouldn't have. She said she grew up and assumed she had to have the obligatory five children, which she said was an expectation in her Jewish family, and she never questioned it, but if she had it to do over again, she wouldn't have had kids. It was pretty gutsy to put on worldwide tv. And she was addressing women in other cultures, too. Her message was she wanted them all to know they didn't have to have kids and there were better things to do.
I don't agree with her about everything political, but it was great to hear someone have the guts to express that. No wonder her and Chelsea Handler get on so well.
