Imagine how great summer would be for the childfree if kids were kept in school ,which I somehow think they eventually will be one day since it's so hard on working parents not to be.
I'm always trying to squeeze in my little trips before school lets out so I don't have to share the rivers or other places with a hoard of screaming kids, and I would have all the weekedays to do that in summer if not for that. Of course, the weekends are already intolerable, and would be even more so if that was the only time they could go somewhere, but they're already ruined anyway, so it would just be a matter of degree. Where I live, all the water places are timed to open and/or go up on the rates for when school lets out, and it's all timed to when it's warm enough to swim, which is also when school lets out, so it really sucks.
Also, if schools didn't let out, I wouldn't have a June lull in my business that sets me back financially every year (from people adjusting to the kids being home and not working and sending me work and from vacations). Of course, I do feel bad that anyone doesn't have more relaxation time, including kids, so maybe it's bad to wish on them, but these days, with them never being allowed to go out and do things and just sitting at the computer anyway, I don't know what difference it makes really. Maybe if they just concentrated on physical fitness through the summer, it would be really great for them at school.
