American Airlines rescheduled a 16-year-old boy with Down's Syndrome off the plane, out of first class, and onto a less busy plane and put him in coach with empty rows around him because he had been so disruptive at the gate before boarding, running around making noise. There is a huge backlash against the airlines for this. What are your thoughts?
I think the parents ought to get a minivan and use it.

I agree with the airline. But you can bet that a federal case will be made of it because it involved a kid with a disability.

I agree with the airlines. Where were the parents? Don't tell me they put this kid on an airplane without an adult caretaker.
Airlines CANNOT have disruptive passengers no matter who they are.

I think the parents were with him. Not all Downs kids have behavior problems, but a percentage of them do. I often wonder if the reason they have behavior issues isn't at least in part because the parent felt too sorry for them growing up with a disability to discipline them and expect more of them. A big issue is being made that they didn't allow him in First Class. I can see where maybe the parents thought he'd be more isolated there, with fewer seats, so not sure that part was a good decision. It sounds like he was roving so much that the airlines felt they had to put space between him and other passengers, which is reasonable, although if he's also noisy, they should have just left him off entirely. But you know, if it was because he was just roving and lurching around, his parents should have controlled that.
