Sylvia67 Not to worry I won't hit you...yet! LOL We are the home to the "Rock & Roll Hall of Fame". Several cities bidded for that Honor. But we won it and have it. So its not like there is NOTHING to see here. If you love Rock & Roll? Cleveland is the Place to be. As for Ohio being an ugly state, thats where My bat comes out,LOL Apparently you were never here in the fall. With all of the oak and buckeye tree's in bloom ready to get ready for winter. The colors are gorgeous. And for once our Baseball Team is actually showing signs of life. But that will be short lived I am sure, lol We have Never been to Virginia. So we know nothing about it. My problem with this city is its Bible thumping backward views on society. There is nothing to see or do past 11 at night. Not to mention we was one of the first cities to pass the no smoking in public places including bars. How that is getting inforced is another matter? But they are trying to do so. I am not a smoker anymore. But I don't believe in being a smoke natzi either. If a person wants to smoke let them have their own area to do it in. Drinking and smoking go hand in hand like PB&J LOL Its Not as healthy, but you get the idea. Well anyway, we have been To Las Vegas 3 times and fell in love with it. Plus I have good friends that live there too. Maybe one day we will make it back there. We live in Hope

Hi-I met a woman from Californina who said her part of California(I don't know where she is from) was more expensive than the Boston area but I don't know where she is from. I know the SF area is still more expensive.
However, Boston is an expensive for families-people have to move far out and have long commutes. Two incomes is a necessity for people with children to afford housing. A lot of people I know that have had children have moved to Pennsylvannia where the cost of living is cheaper.
I have an Aunt and Uncle that live outside of Detriot, MI. My husband and I were chuckling when we saw houses go for $100,000. My Aunt was saying that the house was probably in bad condition but here often a parking space will go for $30,000 to $60,000.
Maybe it is an indirect way people are feeling overpopulation-high housing costs.

California is more expensive than Boston, but the perks are so much better. The whole state is very scenic, from beaches to mountains. Larger living spaces for the money. It's easier to have pets. The traffic is bad in both places though.

And really it depends where in California you are. Apartment prices are really high in Boston and for small space. I really don't think they're any worse in most medium sized CA towns, from comparing two of my friends apartments. Houses are high both places.
I think most people like Boston, that it's a pleasant place to live overall. I just have to have more personal green space to like it very well, but it has its charms. I'm sure there are lots of places in MA that don't have such high rent and certainly not the traffic as Boston. I just couldn't live in the city proper there because you can't get around easily. When I was there, I never even saw a grocery store the whole time I was there. I was told you have to drive to the burbs to shop. That means you need a car, but there's not much parking and it's hell getting around in a car there. Or you shop in tiny little stores that don't have everything you need, which is what my friend ends up doing mostly, I think.

After reading all of this, I am GLAD I am in OHIO. There is none of those problems here at all. You can't go anywhere without seeing a mall, or a store especially in Cleveland and surrounding burbs. Yes we do have farmland. But that is reserved for our Amish folks. Housing is affordable, and there is no problems driving or parking. I guess when they say "Cleveland is the best location in the Nation" they were not kidding after all. Aside from the fact weather wise, no earthquakes or Hurricaines. We occassionally get a tornado or 2 But NEVER in the city. Yes we deal with Snow. But what Northern state does'nt? LOL. Thats the small price of enjoying all 4 seasons. Winter, Spring, summer & FALL. I would hate to live in CA where it is summer all year round. Plus to be honest, I HATE HEAT Period. I was born in DEC So I am a winter baby, and I love Cold weather VS Hot weather anyday. You can always warm up with a blanket and a good cup of hot Coffee. But to cool down you need to jump in the ocean, LOL Sounds nice for those who can swim. But not always accessable, lol Yes I know you all have A/C everywhere. But you still have to go out of your car and into the house. And when that Heat hits you!! YIKES It is like walking into an oven! And I would hate to see your Power bills! LOL We now have central air for the first time in 11 years. And our power bill was pretty reasonable. But anyway, now that My hubby has found a good paying job at last. Things are finally looking better for us both. Have a nice day everyone

I would hate to live in CA where it is summer all year round. I WISH we had summer year round. I HATE the cold. We don't have the winters like in the East and Midwest, but it's definitely not year-round summer. Last winter we had nighttime temps in the 20s. I thought I was going to DIE!

Hi Truckerswife-I am gliad to hear things are looking better for you.
I don't like very hot weather and I like having four seasons. My ideal temperature range would be about 40-75.

I thought I was going to DIE! You could always move out here to Phoenix. It's only supposed to be 113 today... On the other hand, our average high temps for Jan & Feb are 65 and 70, respectively. Those are our coldest months - talk about summer year-round!

I've actually thought about moving to Phoenix, but I have a screwed up nose, and dry weather makes it crust and bleed, so I guess not.

I was in Scottsdale on business a few years ago. It was October, in the upper 90s, and everyone was talking about how it had cooled down.
I loved it there. The only thing I didn't like was that the extreme dryness made my skin like lizard skin.

The only thing I didn't like was that the extreme dryness made my skin like lizard skin. “Yeah, it’s DRY,” she says as she’s staring at (no joke) 18 bottles of lotion on her vanity, including 3 different sunscreens and 4 different skin serums. To be fair, three are almost empty.

Minerva The LAST thing I need in my life is dry skin.. LOL I will pass on Phoenix. LOL Its a nice 75º here today and for July thats not bad for us here in OHIO. We normally see temps in the 90's In mid JULY.. So this is a TREAT But we are due for some much needed rain..And we are finally getting some a little at a time. What we really need is a down pour. But that has not happened yet. Plus I would rather deal with humid air then dry air any day. LOL No need for lotions for me.

Nor me Truckerswife. Here in the UK it has rained at some time EVERY day for almost six weeks. Lots of floods, a complete wash out this summer. BTW I visited the USA a few years ago and Ohio was one of my favourite places, the people we met were so friendly.

I plan to go to Prescott Arizona this fall to see an Aunt of mine that I have not seen in years and in part to visit Arizona. I have never been to that part of the USA.
My husband is not used to traveling so I am breaking him in by visiting relatives that I have not seen in years and are getting older.

My husband is not used to traveling so I am breaking him in by visiting relatives that I have not seen in years and are getting older. That's a good way to break him in, it gives you an objective AND a destination. Prescott should be lovely in the fall, FYI. It's really a very nice little western town. It's high enough in elevation that it's not flat and ugly like Phoenix with nothing but scrub brush; but still not so high as to be freezing cold at night in autumn. There’s quite a bit to do in terms of day excursions around that area. I envy your aunt for getting to live there! Truckerswife - I'd rather get dragged naked across eighty miles of broken glass than have to live in humidity. Ugh. I chafe easily. One of my favorite places in the US to visit is Austin, TX, but I can’t bear the humidity between May & Sept, so I have to save my trips there for winter.

If you think Austin is humid, stay away from Houston and New Orleans. I love N.O., but even in April, when the temperatures are still moderate, you will just drip with sweat all day long.
I haven't been to Prescott for 30 years, but I love the landscape and climate there. What I love about AZ is you can go from desert to mountains in a 100-mile drive and completely change the climate. I would really like to live there, but probably would have to be further north than Phoenix to enjoy it much.
Austin is great if only because there are loads of spring-fed rivers and creeks nearby for great swimming holes. The traffic is getting really bad there because it was built to be a smallish town and has now grown to a major metroplex. The roads are small and crowded inside town.

Limeygirl Your the first person outside of Ohio that said anything positive about our state THANK YOU I have never been outside of the USA. Just could never afford the air fare. Due to many health issues that I have we only live on one income. TG we are child free. We could not afford one even if we wanted one which we don't Sorry about all the rain your getting. I wish you could send some of it this way. We sure could use it. Good Luck and I hope you won't be needing to build an ark anytime soon, lol CC
