Hey everyone. My first time posting in this forum. I'm 27 and have been taking Ortho Novum 1/35 28 day tab b.c pills since (Sunday...yes, it happened to be Easter Sunday, in 2000.) It just worked out that way that it was the holiday. I have been on that straight since then. I've switched from name brand to generic over the years and just recently I finally got a civilian non-Navy dr. on base to get me back on the name brand b.c. I really do believe it is better. I was on the generic Norinyl and it made me anxious & gave me other side affects. My question is this. I've been using the pill for this long and take it on time every day. We don't use any other form of bc (though we do have condoms handy just in case.) But I was wondering how long you have been using the pill for and if you were in good health did you stay on it for years (like into your 40's & 50's) or did you and your SO decide to get steralized. We're not at that point since we're only 27 but I was just wondering how long some of you have been on the pill for. Thanks. I'm thinking so far so good w/the pill. I get antsy sometimes when it comes to not getting my "period" a few days later but other than that we've been fine now for the 7 years we've been having sex. 6 of those being married.

I was on the pill from age 21 to 36, when my DH got a vas.
I loved being on the pill since I had periods from hell. My doctor said that there were hormone pills that would be better for me than straight bc after age 35. After a year of horrible periods I finally broke down and went on the low-dosage bc. All I have to say is Hallelujah!
I've never had a problem with bc (now at age 41) and that was the only contraception we ever used! Works pretty good if you are diligent in taking it.

I started with BC at 21, and except for 3 or 4 months last year, I have been on them, and Im 30 now. I take Ortho Tricyclen or the generic of that, Tri Sprintec or something like that, whichever my insurance company pays for. I was afraid of a blood clot in my legs from being on them long term (it happens), but I didnt like having unpredictable periods. So I went back on them.

I have been on the pill for 11 years, with maybe 6 months or so off it after a breakup. My Dr. said you can take it from your teens to menopause as long as you don't smoke. But I had to switch to a super low dose one as I was getting yeast infections for awhile (been fine for the past 3 years). Unfortunately it does reduce my sex drive. My sweetie and I are fencesitters so we're not ready for vasectomy/tubal ligation. It is nice that my period is so predictable though.

I have been on the pill for years, from age 15 to now; I am 39. (Yikes, that is a looongg time!!!). I am going to get my tubes tied this fall, just before my 40th birthday. I have never had any problems, periods on time like clockwork, and very light.
My doctor was not concerned with me being on the pill this long, since I am in good health, and don't smoke anymore. It is more risky to stay on the pill when you get older if you are a smoker as serenity said. I was always on Triphasal 21.

I took the pill off and on from age 17 to 33. I never had any problems with it at all. Back then, they generally took you off of it at 35. I had my tubal at 33.

I've been taking it from age 13 to this day (age 22)... I had really bad periods, and the doctor suggested the Pill would help. It did! ;D
My mother was on the pil for 20 years until my father got snipped and she never had any problems.

I don't know if this is too much information, but Erin, I lost my virginity the same exact day you started taking the birth control pills. That Easter was the BEST, wasn't it? Anyway, birth control pills affect everyone differently because everyone is different. I was on them for 6 years, and even though I see women singing their praises, I have to say I'm SO glad that I'm off of them. I stopped being overly emotional and needy, I haven't had a migraine (knock on wood!) since I've been off of them, I don't worry about blood clots, heart attacks, or strokes as much anymore (well, no more than a normal 25 year-old), and I have a sex drive again. I guess I didn't really realize how miserable I was when I was on them until I went off of them. I also feel more pure being off of them...no more hormones, no more popping upright in bed in the middle of the night gasping because I had forgotten that I had taken the pill for that day...it is SO nice to be off of them. If you don't see yourself with children in the near future, why not try an IUD? In the long run, it'd probably be less expensive and you wouldn't have the side effects of the pills...or just go for the sterilization (if you're not a fence-sitter)? I'm just curious why you like the pills so much.
