Has anyone gone through this procedure? Anyone else thinking about it?
I like the idea behind the procedure and how "non invasive" it is. I was just hoping to hear from someone who went with this sterilization choice. I'm finally 24 but I'm still not sure if my gyn will actually approve of me having the procedure since there is absolutely NO way to reverse this decision. I'm always a bit apprehensive to ask about it too.

i've had it done back in april of 2005 - i was 25 when i had the procedure done, and i got it done in TEXAS of all places
call up the essure hotline, if you haven't already, and find a doctor in your area that does it. get educated and informed on it, and go to the doctor 100% sure of your decision. i was lucky, probably, and got no resistance from my doctor at all
you can get knocked out, like i did, or stay awake but get local anesthesia. i had almost no bleeding or irritation or cramps after the procedure - the only thing i regret was getting the depo shot afterwards as my back-up method of birth control.
if you have any specific questions, let me know, i'm more than happy to share!

Hi destinydai,
Do they say anything about possible allergies to the materials they use? I read that nickel is one of the materials. I'm allergic to nickel, and that kind of allergy isn't uncommon, so I wonder if it's different when it's placed inside the body or not.

I've read that people with a nickel allergy may have problems so it isn't recommended. There's a new plastic version now called something else but I'm not sure if its FDA approved or how many doctors are using them yet.

Thanks Tissa.
I wonder if Essure will become more popular. I guess it's still quite new and a lot is unknown (risks, complications, etc).

I've been moderator on this board a number of years, and a long time ago we had someone posing as just a board member who we found out was, in fact, selling Essure, so he was posting everything positive and nothing negative about it. I don't think we deleted his posts, but just be aware if you come across them (they'd be several years old, maybe as far back as 2005 or so) they could be B.S. I can't remember his name anymore. Love to have feedback from those who have tried it or know someone who did. Personally, I think there's better ways.

Thanks! So far I don't feel confident about the long term consequences at all. The Essure makers of course say positive things, but overall it isn't convincing for me. Not yet. Still too new. I've been charting my cycle and using that method and so far, so good. I also have a morning after pill in the cupboard should I ever worry that something went wrong with the timing or a condom fails. Better to have it here than have to go to the hospital.
