As a childfree person I praise the Lord every month when I get my period because it means that I'm not knocked up and safe for another month. Well at work the other day some women were talking about pregnancies and one said that she had her period for 3 months before she found out she was pregnant. Then two other women then began to say how they had their period for the first few months too until they discovered they were pregnant as well. I asked my friend who had a kid and she said she got her period for two months. I have heard of this happening and now I am really freaked out and want to take additional pregnancy tests with every period I have. I know it sounds so dumb but, my biggest fear is that I will be and it'll be too late to abort it and I'll be forced to have it! Of course my periods are so heavy I'm surprised anything would be able to cling on for long.

Yup, that's my fear too. But maybe doubling up on birthcontrol will help? Take the Pill AND have a non-hormonal IUD? If the kid is strong enough to fight its way through those defensess, I'll be more than happy to give birth: I want to meet that superbaby! ;D

Well as far as I know having your period while pregnant happens but it's not that frequent; the period is a sure indicator of "unpregnancy" a large percentage of cases, especially if it happens when you expected it. From what I have heard from women who had a "period" while pregnant, the color, consistency and amount of blood was not the same as usual. Also, it's likely that if pregnant, you would have other symptoms as well (like morning sickness).
Ninja's advice is great: double up on BC, it can't hurt.

That really doesn't make a lot of sense; I'm in a human sexuality course now, and it's really kind of impossible, as far as I can tell. I might be wrong. Those women you speak of may have had sex and gotten pregnant in the interim, or may just be experiencing spotting.

Gothique, you're sterile. It's VERY unlikely that you'll get pregnant. But, if you're THAT freaked out, you can still tell if you're pregnant by other signs: morning sickness, tender boobage, etc.
***EDIT: I had to go re-read your post; you had stuff removed through a laparoscopic surgery, not your tubes tied.
Even so, if you're on the birth control pill, you stay away from the grapefruit, use condoms or abstain from sex while on antibiotics, and stake your pills as instructed, you should be just fine.

I think you are correct, they aren't getting periods, they are experiencing typical spotting and are also in denial. I have never known anyone who was knocked up and getting "normal" periods, it's VERY rare. Even if they are getting "normal" periods, there are numerous other signs of pregnancy which I don't see how anyone could ignore, unless of course they want to ignore the signs.

I've heard of the posibility to get periods during a pregnancy, though I can't understand how. Menstruating = discarding the lining of the uterus, right? But isn't the embryo supposed to nest there? It doesn't get an ambiotic sac right away, so it should be subjected to at least one period without a protective bubble. How can it survive when the uterus lining goes down the drain?
