It's always been the case that most of my close girlfriend's boyfriends/husbands just hated me. Why? Because they look up to me. They can't stand it. Of course, I also counsel them not to take any crap, which is very inconvenient. There have been two who liked me, though, so it's not universal. One of my friends, her first husband liked me enough that we palled around at the ranch and went exploring together. But her second husband is a passive-aggressive schmoe who I cannot fathom why she loves him. I think it's just codependence. The time I went and stayed with them for a couple of nights, she asked him to go get us something for breakfast. She'd asked me what I liked, and I like almost anything for breakfast, so I said "Oh, anything, cereal, donuts, eggs, whatever - I like anything but bagels. I hate bagels." So she sends him after donuts -- and what does he do? He gets bagels instead and then put me in the position of having to "try one" and pretend not to mind. So right after breakfast, I told her I needed to go out for lunch. Haha. And we did. She was mad at him for it, but she's still married to him nonetheless. I hope he's matured, because they just moved to my town last week and I'll be seeing more of him. And their kids.
The other one who likes me has been married to who used to be my roommate and best friend for many years, and he and I don't pal around, but he just has no problem with me. Why? Because he's secure and intelligent. But there have been plenty who didn't like me, and it's ALWAYS the ones who tend to be borderline abusive and know I'm onto them.
